Bīj Terms of Use

Effective date: September 18, 2026
Last updated: October 26, 2026

These Terms govern the Bīj app, bijlife.ca and related services operated by Bij Life Inc. (“Bīj”, “we”, “us”). Read them together with the Privacy Policy at https://www.bijlife.ca/privacy-policy.

By accepting these Terms or using the services where acceptance is legally effective, you agree to them. Where law requires a particular acceptance or disclosure process, that process applies. The Terms do not replace consent required for personal-information processing.

1. Company and contact

Bij Life Inc. is a Canadian corporation.

350 Bay St, Suite 1300B
Toronto, Ontario M5H 2S6, Canada
info@bijapp.ca

The current Terms are available at https://www.bijlife.ca/terms. Contact us for account, content-rights or service questions.

2. Wellness and safe use

Bīj supports meditation, contemplative practice and general wellness. It is not a medical or mental-health service, a diagnosis or treatment, or a substitute for qualified professional advice.

Practise within your abilities and stop if a practice causes distress or discomfort. Do not use a practice where distraction could create danger, including while driving or operating equipment. Seek appropriate professional advice about suitability when needed.

Bīj does not monitor reflections, recordings or practice sessions for emergencies. Contact local emergency services when urgent assistance is needed.

3. Eligibility, accounts and privacy

You must be at least 18 and have legal capacity to enter the agreement where you live. Available practices can be explored as a guest. An account and eligible membership are required for certain features.

Provide accurate account information, protect credentials and notify us of suspected unauthorized access. Do not impersonate someone else. You are responsible for your own authorized use; these Terms do not make you automatically liable for every unauthorized use regardless of fault.

Account deletion is available in Profile → Settings → Delete Account, with assistance at info@bijapp.ca. Deleting an account and cancelling a subscription are separate actions. The Privacy Policy explains processing, local data, backups, deletion and individual rights.

4. Permitted use and content access

We grant personal, non-exclusive access to the services for your non-commercial practice, subject to membership eligibility, applicable app-store rules and these Terms.

Do not unlawfully access or disrupt systems, bypass access controls, impersonate others, resell membership access, infringe rights, or extract, redistribute, repackage or commercially reuse recordings and other protected content without authorization.

Authorized offline downloads are for use through Bīj and do not transfer ownership or independent redistribution rights. This restriction does not prevent lawful exports of your own content, statutory exceptions, or rights granted directly under an applicable open licence or public-domain status.

We may take proportionate action against material misuse or an unlawful/security threat, including suspension where necessary. Where appropriate and lawful, we explain the reason and allow a reasonable opportunity to resolve it. Suspension and termination remain subject to mandatory paid-service and consumer rights.

5. Your content, local storage and practice history

You retain ownership of your reflections, recordings, photos and other original content. You give us only the limited permission needed to process content in the ways necessary to provide the features you choose and as described in the Privacy Policy. This does not give Bīj a general right to publish, advertise with or sell your private content.

App Store release of version 1.1.2, when installed: new and already-local reflections, drafts, Voice Reflection audio and selected photo attachments stay on the device. Bīj does not provide cloud backup for them. Older hosted written entries and edits to them remain in the hosted journal service; custom journal names are also hosted. Earlier versions may handle synchronization differently. See the Privacy Policy.

Apple device backups may include local data according to their settings. Removing the app or losing/erasing a device without a restorable backup can remove local content. Available written text/PDF exports omit photos and voice recordings; recordings can be exported through available audio controls. Exports remain outside Bīj's control.

Personal practice history can record the time actually practised, excluding pauses. Forest contributions and qualifying Return-day credit depend on activity confirmed by our services. In 1.1.2, a practice completed offline or after sign-in expires may remain in personal history without that credit, and the app does not automatically resubmit the uncredited completion. Personal totals and Forest totals may therefore differ.

Your private reflection content is not published to other members or used to determine tree commitments.

6. Membership, purchases and cancellation

Offers. Version 1.1.2's intended in-app offers are Monthly Membership and Lifetime Membership. Availability can differ by version, storefront or separately presented offer. Annual subscriptions may remain through earlier or separate offers; their terms below apply wherever offered or already held.

Monthly Membership. This is an automatically renewing monthly subscription. For App Store purchases, Apple charges your Apple Account and renewal continues unless cancelled as required by the checkout terms, ordinarily at least 24 hours before the current period ends.

Annual Membership, where applicable. This is an automatically renewing yearly subscription with the full annual amount charged for the year. Existing Annual entitlements and cancellation rights remain valid. Removing an offer does not itself constitute your cancellation.

Lifetime Membership. This is a one-time purchase without automatic renewal. “Lifetime” means continuing membership access for the operating lifetime of the Bīj service, not the purchaser's lifespan. It does not guarantee that every individual recording or feature remains permanently available. This definition does not permit us to disregard paid-access promises or mandatory remedies when a service is materially reduced or closed.

Information before purchase. The checkout must identify the product, included access, full localized price, currency, billing period, automatic-renewal terms and any offer eligibility or other material restriction before confirmation. The confirmed offer governs your purchase. We do not promise a particular storefront conversion or tax-inclusive total beyond what the applicable checkout displays.

App Store billing. Apple handles App Store payment, subscription management and refund requests under its terms. We do not receive your full card details or Apple Account password from Apple. Manage or cancel subscriptions in Apple Account subscription settings or an available in-app management link. Cancellation normally stops the next renewal while access continues for the paid period, subject to applicable refund terms.

Other checkout offers. If a website purchase is separately offered, its checkout identifies the seller/payment provider and applicable billing, cancellation and refund process. Apple-specific billing provisions apply only to purchases billed by Apple. These Terms do not create a new external purchase route inside the app.

Restoration. Use Restore Purchases to recover eligible Apple purchases, subject to the Apple Account, Bīj account-association and entitlement safeguards. Restoration is not an unconditional transfer of a purchase to any Bīj account. Contact support if an eligible purchase is associated incorrectly.

Refunds and mandatory rights. Request an App Store refund through Apple's process. Contact us about service problems or rights for which Bij Life Inc. is responsible. Apple's billing role does not remove any non-excludable consumer guarantee, cancellation, refund or other remedy.

Account deletion. Deleting Bīj or its account does not cancel an active Apple subscription. Cancel with Apple if you want billing to stop. You may request account deletion before the paid period ends. Lifetime Membership has no recurring charge to cancel.

Price changes, trial/introductory offers and promotions follow the disclosures, notice and consent requirements applicable to that purchase. Account creation alone is not agreement to a paid subscription.

7. Restoration commitments

We distinguish:

  • Committed: Bīj has recorded a restoration commitment.

  • Funded: money has been provided to the restoration partner.

  • Partner-confirmed planting: the partner has reported the applicable planting or verification status.

A membership, practice or milestone is not itself proof that a tree has been planted. Funding does not itself establish completed planting, survival or a carbon benefit.

The relevant offer or Forest explanation identifies qualifying commitments. Practice-based calculations depend on server-confirmed eligible activity and reconciliation as explained in section 5. We do not count the same qualifying event twice, and do not represent unavailable reporting as confirmed planting.

Partners, weather and ecological conditions affect project timing and outcomes. We aim to explain material corrections and changes transparently. These Terms do not excuse an existing commitment or authorize misleading environmental claims. Membership is a purchase of services; any tax receipt for a separate donation must be expressly identified.

8. Teachings and third-party content

Bīj may present teachings, translations, poems, music and guided practices created by us, in the public domain or used under licence. Copyright in a modern translation, recording or arrangement may exist even when an underlying text is in the public domain.

Content may be replaced or withdrawn for rights, safety or service reasons, subject to section 11 and mandatory remedies for paid access. Attribution or separate licence terms apply where stated.

9. Intellectual property and app licence

The app's proprietary design, software, audio, artwork and other protected material belong to Bij Life Inc. or the respective creators, owners and licensors, as applicable. Some recordings are produced in-house and others are licensed. Membership grants access; it does not transfer copyright.

Rights in public-domain material and separately licensed open material remain governed by their applicable status or licence. Your own content remains yours under section 5.

Open-source components are governed by their own licences. For Bīj versions containing LAME, Bij Life Inc. permits you to modify the work for your own use, reverse engineer it for debugging those modifications, and use the supplied object code and resources to relink it with a modified compatible LAME library. These rights and rights granted by the component licences take precedence over the copying, modification and reverse-engineering restrictions in these Terms. In the app, the LAME notice, full licence and free source and relinking offer appear in the Third-party software section at the start of these Terms.

If you obtain Bīj through Apple's App Store, the applicable App Store end-user licence agreement also governs your app licence. Apple's Standard EULA applies unless a custom agreement is provided for the app: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/. These service Terms supplement that licence and do not replace it or reduce mandatory rights. Apple is not the provider of Bīj's independent services or responsible for support we must provide.

10. Providers and external services

The services use providers described in the Privacy Policy. Apple and other independent providers have their own terms. External links do not transfer ownership of your content or authorize unrelated processing by Bīj.

We remain responsible for our own obligations and for providers to the extent applicable law makes us responsible. This section does not disclaim accountability required by privacy or consumer law.

11. Availability, changes and ending services

Services may experience maintenance, interruptions and technical limitations. We do not promise uninterrupted operation or perfect accuracy. We nevertheless remain responsible for the service standards and remedies required by law.

We may make reasonable changes for maintenance, security, legal compliance, accessibility, content rights or service improvement. If a change materially reduces paid access, or if we propose to close the service, we provide the notice, consent options and cancellation/refund or other remedies required by law.

We do not reserve an unrestricted right to remove paid access without consequence. Changes will not retroactively remove accrued rights.

12. Liability and consumer protections

Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or replaces a consumer guarantee, warranty, cancellation/refund right, remedy or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. Applicable protections in your place of residence, including relevant Canadian, Australian and New Zealand consumer protections, remain available.

Where lawful, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses that were not reasonably foreseeable. This does not exclude responsibility for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, or other liability the law requires us to bear. For Québec consumers, this section does not release us from liability for consequences of our own acts or those of our representatives.

Local-data and backup explanations describe how the service works; they are not a blanket waiver of responsibility for data loss caused by a breach of our legal obligations.

13. Governing law and resolving concerns

Contact info@bijapp.ca so we can try to resolve a concern. This does not prevent you from exercising legal rights or meeting a statutory deadline.

Ontario law and applicable Canadian federal law govern except to the extent mandatory law provides otherwise. These Terms do not remove protections of your place of residence, require you to use Ontario courts where local law allows another competent court, or waive protected class-action or other collective rights. We do not impose mandatory arbitration through these Terms.

14. Changes, language and copies

We identify revisions by the date above and provide appropriate advance notice of material changes. Where required, notice includes the amended wording, effective date and your rights to reject the change, cancel or obtain a remedy. We seek affirmative consent where law requires it; continued use alone is not deemed consent where insufficient.

Where Québec's contract-amendment rules apply, we provide the required written notice at least 30 days in advance and the applicable refusal/cancellation rights. Changes do not retroactively remove accrued rights.

Where French-language contracting requirements apply, a French version and related documents must be provided as required before an express choice to contract in another language. Merely visiting an English page is not treated as that express choice. No “English always prevails” clause overrides applicable language law.

You can retain or request a copy of these Terms. Purchase confirmations and contract copies are provided as required by applicable law.
